Brake Service: How much do you know about Brakes?

Are your vehicle's brakes in need of repair? A simple test can provide a relatively accurate assessment of whether or not you're headed towards a brake service.

If you are looking for Brake Replacement Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Services Billings MT shop. Find Brake Repair Billings MT for safe driving.

Self-Test for Dummies about Brakes:

    * First, on ABS-equipped vehicles, does the ABS warning light come on when you turn the ignition? The light should come on for a few seconds to verify the ABS warning light circuit works, and then it should go out. If no light appears, a bulb is either burned out or there is a wiring problem. If the light comes on and remains on, you should take your vehicle to a certified brake service specialist for a diagnostic test to identify the problem.

    * Secondly, how does the brake pedal feel? Is it firm when you step down on it? A soft or mushy-feeling pedal usually indicates air in the lines or leaks. A pedal that slowly sinks is a classic symptom of a worn master cylinder. A low pedal may indicate worn linings, the need for adjustment, defective or frozen drum brake adjusters or the level of brake fluid is too low.

    * Thirdly, check to see if the brake lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed. If there are no lights, it may indicate a defective or misadjusted brake light pedal switch or burned out bulbs in the tail lights.

    * Fourthly, what is the level of brake fluid in the reservoir? A low level reading may indicate a leak or worn linings. Discoloration indicates moisture contamination and the need to change the brake fluid.

    * Lastly, while driving and braking, do you hear any squealing or rubbing noises? If so, it is most likely because the rotors are worn down to minimum specifications or that the wear indicators are making contact with the rotor.

If you notice any of the abnormalities mentioned in the test above, take your vehicle into a full service auto center for a full brake service.

Car Service Tips to Keep Your Vehicle Environmentally in Tune

Routine car service is a win-win situation. Besides helping the environment and saving our natural resources, a properly maintained vehicle runs more efficiently, is safer, and lasts longer. This not only helps you save our natural resources, it saves you time and money spent on extensive car repair.

If you are looking for Car Service Billings MT than Find our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop.Find Starters Billings MT with us to to solve electronic problems

Be in tune with the environment by following these car service tips:

    * Tune up yourengine. Fuel efficiency can be reduced by as much as 30% with a misfiring spark plug. Check your owner's manual and follow the recommended service schedule intervals for replacing filters and fluids.

    * Check your tires. Under-inflation, wheels out of alignment, or tires out of balance wastes fuel--the engine has to work harder to push the vehicle. Properly maintained tires will last longer, meaning fewer scrap tires to be disposed of.

    * Maintain your A/C. It should be serviced only by a certified technician experienced in handling and recycling refrigerants. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, almost one third of the gases released into the atmosphere come from vehicle air conditioners not working properly.

    * Dispose of used motor oil, anti-freeze/coolant, tires, and old batteries properly. Many car repair facilities will collect and dispose of these items for you, or call your local government for recycling sites.

    * Watch speed limits. Gas mileage decreases sharply above 55 mph. Use cruise-control on open highways to keep your speed as steady as possible. Avoid sudden accelerations and jerky stop-and-go's.

    * Avoid excessive idling. Shut off the engine while waiting. Today's vehicles are designed to "warm up" fast, so those five-minute warm ups on cold winter mornings are not necessary.

    * Lighten your load. Carry only what is necessary as less weight means better mileage. Store luggage in the trunk rather than on the roof to reduce drag.

    * Eliminate unnecessary driving. Consolidate your daily errands, join a car pool, and try to travel when traffic is light to avoid stop-and-go conditions.

Remember, how your car runs, how you drive it, and how used fluids and parts are disposed of all affect our environment. Make your mark for the good!

Exhaust System: Why Is the Muffler so important?

You can tell the importance of the muffler by the level of noise coming from your car or truck's exhaust system. Simply stated, the purpose of the muffler is to cancel out the sound waves produced by the engine as those waves travel through the muffler.

If you are looking for Exhaust Systems Billings MT your search can be over now with our pricesprecisionauto Auto Repair Billings MT Shop. Also find Vehicle Maintenance Billings MT to keep your car up to date.

What are sound waves?

In relation to an exhaust system, sound is a pressure wave formed from pulses of alternating high and low air pressure. Air pressure is created when an exhaust valve in the engine opens and a burst of high-pressure gas suddenly enters the exhaust system. The molecules in this gas collide with the lower-pressure molecules in the pipe, causing them to stack up on each other. They then stack up on the molecules a little further down the pipe, leaving an area of low pressure behind.

How does the muffler cancel sound?

Typically, the muffler is constructed in three layers: Two thin layers of metal with a thicker, slightly insulated layer between them. This allows the muffler to absorb some of the pressure pulses. The pipes going in and out of the main chamber are perforated with holes and are fine-tuned (just like a musical instrument) to reflect the sound waves so that they interfere with each other. The exhaust gases and the sound waves enter through the center tube. This allows thousands of tiny pressure pulses to bounce around in the main chamber, canceling each other out and also being absorbed by the muffler's housing.
