Many vehicle owners don't know that their vehicle's engine needs antifreeze just as much during the hot months of summer as during the cold winter. Did you wonder why you experienced overheating problems this summer, which led to an expensive radiator repair? Many vehicles are driven around with just plain water in their radiator. Of course, most drivers know that antifreeze keeps their car's engine from turning into a block of ice in the winter. Schedule a radiator service to check the ratio of coolant to water and find out how it helps your vehicle keep its cool during the hot temperatures of summer.

What is the purpose of coolant / antifreeze?
Coolant helps your engine run cooler by raising the boiling point of the water in the radiator, allowing it to carry more heat away from the engine. The engine can heat up pretty quickly if the level of the coolant is too low. If you allow the engine to run with low coolant levels for extended periods of time, you can be sure that a radiator repair, an expensive engine repair, or possibly both, will be in your immediate future. By keeping the coolant at the recommended level all year long, you probably won't need to worry about your engine loosing its cool.
Schedule a radiator service!
Ask your radiator service technician to inspect your engine's hoses when checking the coolant ratio. Also, look for any leakage under the car where you park at night. If you see a spill or notice a leak while the engine is running, the problem is more serious than just simply adding more antifreeze. To avoid more serious damage to your vehicle's engine, a radiator repair will be necessary sooner rather than later.
DIY Tip: Check the antifreeze/coolant level on a regular basis. If you need to add anti-freeze yourself, unscrew or pop off the cap on top of the opaque plastic overflow reservoir and add your mixture until it reaches the full mark. Put the cap back on properly, and your vehicle will be ready to finish out the summer in style!
