It looks like freezing temperatures are here for awhile yet. Make sure your vehicle will make it through the last of winter's
cold temperatures by scheduling a professional radiator service to check the level and mixture of antifreeze. This will ensure your vehicle will
keep operating at optimum performance until spring comes with its warmer temperatures. Make sure the antifreeze is at its most effective mixture to avoid an
urgent radiator repair.

What is Antifreeze?
Radiators are normally filled with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze (usually green or red in color) and water. Antifreeze (also referred to as coolant) serves three main purposes:
- Keeps the water in your radiator and engine from freezing in winter.
- Keeps that same water from boiling over in the summer, and
- Lubricates moving parts, such as the water pump.
The key chemical component in today's coolants is ethylene glycol. This chemical additive lowers the freezing point of a
water-based liquid. When mixed correctly, radiator fluid generally won't freeze even if the temperature is less than 30 degrees below zero! It also keeps the
same fluid from boiling at as much as 275 degrees F.
Maintain the effectiveness of Antifreeze:
Antifreeze periodically needs to be maintained and refreshed once it has been mixed with water and put into use. If the
antifreeze leaks, boils, or if the cooling system has been drained and refilled, the freeze protection may have been compromised. In colder environments,
more antifreeze and less water may be required. Most automotive manufacturers recommend periodic complete replacement of the antifreeze to renew corrosion
inhibitors and remove accumulated contaminants.
Note: Take care of a needed radiator service to prevent damage to your engine, resulting in
major radiator repair.
