Spring is here and with that, many people are starting to plan their summer road trips. There will be more vehicles than
ever on the road, some in desperate need of car service or even more extensive car repair. As you make your plans for your summer road trip, be
sure to have basic car service taken care of or any necessary car repair before getting out on the road.

Consider these travel tips to make your road trip as safe as possible:
- Don't drive drowsy -- Your risk of an accident while driving tired is similar to that when driving while intoxicated. Pull off the road in a safe place and take a quick nap or grab some caffeine.
- Avoid distractions – Stay focused on the road and the vehicles around you so your brain has time to analyze and prepare for any dangerous situations. Pulling off the road to make that necessary call, sort out squabbling kids, or grabbing lunch, will make you a safer driver. If you absolutely have to make calls while on the road, invest in a Bluetooth device.
- Allow extra space – Create a buffer zone between you and the car ahead (a car length for every 10 miles an hour) to allow time for quick braking. If other cars are uncomfortably close, line up with an empty space in a side lane so you have a place to steer your vehicle into if needed.
- Keep your hands on the wheel -- When driving along boring stretches of road or in stop-and-go traffic, it's tempting to relax—maybe too much. Your hands should be on the steering wheel at all times.
- Adapt to weather conditions -- Use proper judgment during bad weather—fog, rain storms, etc. Leave more room than usual between you and the car in front for extra stopping time and emergency manuevers.
- Signaling other drivers – Make sure to use your turn signals well before you intend on turning or changing lanes. You can create a dangerous situation by maneuvering your vehicle unexpectedly.
- Practice defensive driving -- Other drivers can be unpredictable. Avoid erratic driving--vehicles that drift across lanes, don't signal, or have difficulty maintaining a steady speed.
