Does a Tire Balance or Tire Rotation Really Help?

Little things can create big annoyances, but with a little effort, they can entirely be avoided. This especially applies to a vehicle's tire balance and tire rotation.

If you are looking for quality Exhaust Systems Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT   shop. Also find Tire Rotation Billings MT mechanic to solve your car problems.

• Why is correct Tire Balance important?

When a wheel and tire rotate, they exert a centrifugal force on the axle that depends on the location of their center of mass and the orientation of their moment of inertia. This is referred to as balance, imbalance, or unbalance. Before leaving the factory, tires are checked for excessive static imbalance and dynamic imbalance using automatic tire balance machines. The balance is checked again when the tires are mounted to the wheel, either on brand-new vehicles, or when purchased at an auto shop. Excessive imbalance is corrected by applying balance weights to the wheels to counteract the imbalance.

A wheel balancing machine can detect as little as 1/4 ounce difference in weight around the wheel. Because that tiny amount of weight travels around the axle hundreds of times a minute, it creates enough momentum to cause serious vibration. If more than one tire is out of balance, the vibration is significantly worse. Out of balance tires can be felt by the driver by an annoying vibration transmitted through the steering wheel. Unbalanced tires put uneven pressure on the treads, possibly resulting in tires that get too hot and wear unevenly, as well as putting a strain on the wheel bearings and suspension system.
• Why is regular Tire Rotation important?

Tire rotation is the procedure of moving tires to different car positions, such as front-to-rear, in order to even out the tread wear. This helps extend the life of your tires, keeping the ones with the most tread on the traction wheels of the vehicle for optimum driving and stopping performance.

To help you remember, mark your calendar to have a tire rotation service performed every 5 to 6 thousand mile intervals. For convenience, you could schedule a tire rotation at every other oil change interval.

Does your vehicle needs a tire rotation service or just a tire balance? We will be glad to help you. Dispelling Common Myths about Car Maintenance

There are a lot of myths circulating among drivers about vehicle maintenance. Second and third-hand knowledge can be expensive and possibly even dangerous if taken too seriously. It pays to find out the true facts about car maintenance straight from auto professionals.

Need solution for problems associated with auto electrical, starters or Auto Electrical Repair Billings MT visit our Precision Auto Center Billings MT Shop.Find Car Maintenance Billings MT to have safe driving.

A few of the more common vehicle maintenance myths will be dispelled here as vehicle owners become more informed :

Myth: A visual tire inspection alone can determine if it has the correct air pressure.

Did you know that tires lose about one pound of pressure per month? A tire can be as much as 10 pounds per square inch low on air pressure and not show any outward signs. Under-inflated tires create more rolling resistance, causing an increase in fuel consumption. The correct tire pressure helps extend the life of the tire, and also saves money in fuel costs.

Myth: An air filter is good until the next oil change if it looks clean.
An air filter traps dirt and junk so small that it cannot be seen. Even if it looks okay, it can be clogged with crud. The engine can have trouble breathing if the small passages in the filter become clogged. Follow the vehicle maintenance schedule found in your owner's manual for replacing the air filter. It is easy and inexpensive.

Myth: Brake fluid will last for the life of the vehicle.

Brake fluid has the ability to absorb water from the air. This moisture can cause damage to the brake system over time, dangerously lowering the brake fluid boiling point. If brake fluid is not clear and transparent, it's time for a change.

Myth: Bright green engine coolant can still do its job.

The chemicals in engine coolant can become corrosive over time. Even if it looks okay, it can in fact, be causing unseen and expensive cooling system damage. Checking engine coolant condition with an inexpensive tool is easy, and can prevent both overheated engines and empty wallets.

Myth: Premium gas in the tank guarantees premium performance.

Don't pay the extra money for premium unless a vehicle's engine was designed and built for it. There are fewer high performance cars and trucks that actually require premium fuel nowadays. Use regular fuel unless the owner's manual calls for premium.

Consult with your auto mechanic if in doubt about your vehicle's performance or components. They can give you expert advice on vehicle maintenance, preventing internal damage to your vehicle or spending money for unnecessary repairs.

Car Tune Up: Is there such a thing?

The term "car tune up" these days typically refers to a basic maintenance program for the various components of your vehicle. However, it is one of the most misused and misunderstood automotive terms today. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines "tune up" as "a general adjustment to insure operation at peak efficiency." Your owner's manual will probably just refer to the maintenance schedule for the individual components that should be serviced or replaced within a specific period of time or number of miles driven.

If you are looking for Air Conditioner Repair Billings MT in this summer find our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Tune up Car Billings MT services with us.

Is there such a thing as a "car tune up?"

Older vehicles have ignition coils (one for each spark plug) which are adjusted until the spark intensity is equal, resulting in better idling and acceleration. They make a buzzing sound, which if adjusted properly, buzz in tune. Thus, the term "tune-up," applied to the service of replacing spark plugs, distributor points, inspecting or replacing the cap and rotor, replacing the fuel and air filters, and making adjustments to the point gap, ignition timing and idle mixture.

Newer vehicles do not have distributors or spark plug wires, but instead have an on-board computer which controls and adjusts the fuel mixture, timing and idle speed. The only remnants of tune up components are spark plugs, fuel and air filters, and the PCV valve.

What does a tune up include?

The answer to this question may be confusing, as unfortunately, every auto repair shop determines what their particular car tune-up service includes—which components are replaced and which types of tests are performed. Some auto shops may consider a "tune-up" as just replacing a set of spark plugs. Other auto shops will replace spark plugs and other ignition components, fuel and air filters, PCV valve, as well as test the electronic system. Be sure to ask what is included when scheduling a tune up service.

Remember that a car tune up does not fix performance problems, typically caused by a malfunctioning sensor or control unit. If it is time for the spark plugs or fuel filter to be replaced, see if performance increases after they are replaced. If not, enlist the assistance of a trained technician with diagnostic testing equipment to analyze the performance problem.

Wheel Alignment: Commonly Asked Questions

Poor road conditions are your wheels' worst enemy. If you drive down poorly maintained roads, drive through pot holes, or even hit a curb, your wheel alignment can be greatly affected. Even the slightest car alignment issue can accelerate uneven tire wear. Have your wheel alignment checked every 6,000 miles or so--your tires and your wallet will thank you later.

If you are looking for Wheel Alignment Billings MT  than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Center Billings MT shop. Also Find Auto Repair Services Billings MT for safe driving.

Q: How will a wheel alignment help my vehicle?

A: The correct wheel alignment ensures optimal drivability. Your wheels will stay pointed in the right direction, helping your tires last longer and your vehicle drive smoother. When your car rolled off the assembly line, it came preset with special angles that position the tires correctly. Precise car alignment will keep your vehicle handling the way it's intended. Misalignment can lead to uneven tire wear, poor handling and shorter tire life. Also, your car will require less energy to keep running, potentially saving dollars on fuel.

Q: Are there any warning lights that indicate a car alignment problem?
A. Unfortunately, there are no warning lights. Regular tire service is the best defense.

Q: Are there any misalignment issues you can take care of yourself?
A. Yes—here are a few ideas:

    * Remove junk from your trunk. If there is too much weight loading down the back-end of your vehicle, it could easily throw off the alignment.
    * Maintain correct air pressure in your tires.
    * Consider conservative driving. It places less strain on the steering and suspension components, the key to maintaining proper alignment.

Remember: Tires are expensive. Keeping them aligned properly saves you money in the long run.

Have questions about wheel alignment? Our ASE-Certified Technicians at Precision Automotive will be happy to answer your questions. Call today (406) 248-2838, or go on-line to www.pricesprecisionauto.com for more information about truck and car alignment services. Worried About Auto Repair Warranties?

Nervous about the last auto repair service you had on your vehicle? Did you accept any of the offers of warranties on any of the parts or labor? Knowing when warranties are a good deal, or a not so good deal, is important. Unfortunately, there are so many different kinds of warranties that it can be rather confusing.

If you are looking for Quality Brake Repair Billings MT your search can be over with our pricision Auto Repair Billings MT . Also find Engine Repair Billings MT mechanic with us.

Before you make a decision about purchasing a warranty offered to you on any parts or labor, here are three important questions to ask the auto repair shop:

What is covered in the warranty?

Or maybe the better question to ask is--what is not covered? Read the fine print and be sure the warranty is explained thoroughly to your satisfaction. Don't assume anything, as not all warranties cover the same things. For example, does it cover only the drive train, or will it cover bumper-to-bumper? What kind of repairs does it cover, and how long (how many months or miles) is it good for?

Is it cost effective?

What will it cost—long term and short-term? On average, how much do you spend on auto repair each year? Compare that to how much the warranty will cost you. Is the difference significantly higher or lower? If there is a deductible, how often does that have to be met—one time, or per year?

What are the rules or stipulations that have to be met?

Every extended warranty normally comes with a set of rules or stipulations. How stringent are the rules on the particular warranty you are being offered? Does it apply only to that particular dealer or a specific auto repair shop?

Remember:  Be sure to read the entire warranty through carefully and ask questions about the coverage, the cost, and the rules before signing on the dotted line!

Help Save the Environment with Regular Oil Changes!

Most drivers know that an oil change impacts the efficiency and performance of their vehicle. But do they also understand the impact oil changes have on our environment? To understand the importance of oil changes in keeping your vehicle running smoothly, and to keep our environment pollution free, consider these facts about oil changes.

If you are looking for quality Oil Change Billings MT services than your search can be over now with our Precision Automotive Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Car Repair Billings MT services to have safe driving.

    * Is the 3,000 mile oil change rule still true?

Many vehicle manufacturers now recommend oil changes at 5,000, 7,000 or even 10,000 miles for some newer vehicle models. Check your owner's manual for the recommended oil change interval for your specific vehicle, or ask your auto mechanic for professional advice.

    * Will frequent oil changes ensure my vehicle lasts longer?

Changing oil too frequently is harmful to the environment, and it may have very little impact on your vehicle's efficiency. With today's advancements in vehicle and oil technologies, certain vehicles can go longer between oil changes without compromising the engine components or sacrificing performance.

    * Do you recycle properly?

Oil is insoluble and if not recycled properly, it will find a course through oceans, lakes and other bodies of water, harming fish and other aquatic wildlife. Recycle your used motor oil by emptying it into a specially designed container and do not mix it with any other materials, including water. Improper disposal is illegal and can result in fines in most parts of the country.

Note to Remember: You can do your part to help save the environment and save money in the process by becoming more informed about oil change basics.

Transmission Service: What will it Cost?

Transmissions are the most complex and essential engine component for the reliability and drivability of your vehicle. They shift gears (either automatically or manually) to change the speed-torque ratio in order to deliver power to the wheels based on the speed of the vehicle. Unfortunately, it is that complexity that makes a minor transmission service or an extensive transmission repair a blow to your budget!

If you are looking for quality Transmission Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Automotive Service Billings MT mechanic to solve your vehicle problems.

Cost Factors --

There are several factors that affect the cost of transmission repair, the most important of which is the type and extent of the repair. If your vehicle needs a major transmission repair, such as a completely replacement or rebuild, vehicle owners can expect to pay several thousand dollars for quality parts and skilled labor. A minor transmission repair or a fluid change may only be a couple hundred dollars.

    * Make and model of the vehicle, with domestic/standard models costing quite a bit less than high-end or imported vehicles.

    * The extent of the damage. Newer cars that have been well maintained will cost less than those that have been through tough times.

    * Considerably older or rarer cars are harder to find parts for, increasing the cost.

    * Manual transmissions cost less to repair/replace than automatics.

    * Some shops charge higher prices than others for the same work (due to marketing, location, reputation, etc.)

    * The driver's demographics plays a part in determining the overall cost of work performed. Areas with higher costs of living, higher demand of services and/or lower availability of skilled technicians will charge higher labor costs, raising the total price.

When making a decision as to the type of transmission service to have done, it is important to know which type is most cost effective (repair or replacement). If the work is going to be rather extensive, a complete replacement may save you money in the long run.

Need help in making a decision about transmission repair? We will be happy to answer your questions. Brake Replacement Needed? Check out the Brake Rotors!

If you keep your car long enough you will eventually need a brake replacement, unless your car never leaves your garage. If you start to notice brake problems and have them taken care of quickly, brake replacement is usually pretty affordable. However, if problems are ignored or neglected, a brake replacement can become rather expensive, as damage to other parts of your vehicle may have occurred.

If you are looking for Brake Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Services Billings MT shop. Also find Brake Replacement Billings MT to have safe driving. The most

common components to fail are brake rotors --

Brake rotors have a highly machined surface where the brake pads make contact. Brake rotors will wear out over time, usually in the form of ridges and groves where the pad rubs against them. Because pads also wear out, they may cause damage to the rotors. In this case, you will probably need to replace both pads and rotors, which can be rather expensive.

To lower the cost if the rotors are not too damaged, it may be possible that your mechanic may be able to machine and resurface them. However, you then create the risk that the thinner rotors will warp in the high heat caused by the friction between the pad and disc. Ask for advice from a certified brake repair specialist. They will be able to assess the condition of the rotors and advise you as to whether to machine the rotors or to completely replace them.

A Tip to Remember: Before you start out on that last road trip before our good summer weather is gone, take care of that needed brake replacement before you head down the road. Be safe and have fun!

Car Battery Replacement: Smooth Driving to Summer’s End!

Contrary to what many drivers think, warm weather can create major problems with a car battery. According to the Car Care Council, it is hot temperatures, not cold, that can shorten its life. Unfortunately, the average life of a car battery is only about three to five years. And, there are two main causes that will lead to a premature car battery replacement -- excessive heat and overcharging.

If you are looking for quality Car Battery Billings MT services than your search can be over with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Air Conditioning Service Billings MT with us.

Excessive heat causes the fluid in a car battery to evaporate. A consistent low level of fluid will cause damage to the internal structure. Or, if one of the components in the charging system is malfunctioning, such as the voltage regulator, the charging rate will be too high. This will lead to a slow death for your car battery, resulting in a car battery replacement sooner rather than later.

To finish out your summer fun with no interruptions, here a few simple tips to extend the life of your car battery.
Be sure the electrical system is charging at the correct rate. Damage can be caused by both overcharging and undercharging.

Check the fluid level regularly if your car battery is the type that needs to be topped off, especially in hot weather. If necessary, add distilled water.

When a car battery replacement is inevitable, replace it with one that's rated at least as high as the original.
Keep dirt and contaminants from accumulating on the terminals. Dirt becomes a conductor, which drains the power and corrosion on the terminals becomes an insulator, inhibiting current flow.

Remember: These simple care and maintenance tips will keep your car battery alive and well.

Automotive Service: What do Those Red and Yellow Lights Mean?

Did you ever wonder what those little red and yellow lights are that you see every time you start your car? These lights and indicators appear as the car's computer checks each operating system. As the lights go out, it means the computer has verified that each system is working correctly. Pay close attention to these warning lights. They indicate whether your vehicle needs a minor automotive service, or a more extensive automotive repair.

If you are looking for Radiator Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Automotive Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Muffler Billings MT service .

If an indicator light remains on several minutes after the car has been started, or if it comes on while driving, it is something to be concerned about. Treat all dash warning lights like traffic signals. They are color-coordinated according to the severity of the warning (i.e., yellow is caution, red is serious). Today's vehicle have built-in computer systems, continuously monitoring the performance of each operating system.
Yellow Warning Lights -

A yellow "Service Engine Soon" light means "proceed with caution" as a potential problem has been detected. The computer system can correct some minor abnormalities, but if the light continues to come on every time you start the car, schedule an automotive service for diagnostic testing. If the light comes on while driving but then goes off shortly, the computer system was probably able to correct the problem itself.
What causes the "Service Engine Soon" light to come on?

    * computer-related problems, such as faulty sensors
    * anti-lock brake systems
    * safety restraint systems, such as air bags
    * emissions components

Red Warning Lights -

A red warning light indicates a problem that means immediate damage and danger to your vehicle. You should pull over and turn off the car as soon as possible. The cause could be a safety issue (such as brakes), so use caution as you maneuver to stop the vehicle. Unfortunately, it is NOT a pre-warning when the red light comes on, the problem is already occurring. It can be a matter of seconds before permanent engine damage occurs. Don't drive your vehicle to an automotive repair shop, but call for road-side assistance.
What causes the red warning lights to come on?

    * low oil pressure
    * engine over-heating
    * brake failure
    * transmission over-heating
    * low battery voltage.

Stay Cool with Radiator Service!

Many vehicle owners don't know that their vehicle's engine needs antifreeze just as much during the hot months of summer as during the cold winter. Did you wonder why you experienced overheating problems this summer, which led to an expensive radiator repair? Many vehicles are driven around with just plain water in their radiator. Of course, most drivers know that antifreeze keeps their car's engine from turning into a block of ice in the winter. Schedule a radiator service to check the ratio of coolant to water and find out how it helps your vehicle keep its cool during the hot temperatures of summer.

If you are looking for Radiator Repair Billings MT than find our dedicated Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Our dedicated mechanic also provides Air Conditioner Repair Billings MT for your vehicle.

What is the purpose of coolant / antifreeze?

Coolant helps your engine run cooler by raising the boiling point of the water in the radiator, allowing it to carry more heat away from the engine. The engine can heat up pretty quickly if the level of the coolant is too low. If you allow the engine to run with low coolant levels for extended periods of time, you can be sure that a radiator repair, an expensive engine repair, or possibly both, will be in your immediate future. By keeping the coolant at the recommended level all year long, you probably won't need to worry about your engine loosing its cool.

Schedule a radiator service!

Ask your radiator service technician to inspect your engine's hoses when checking the coolant ratio. Also, look for any leakage under the car where you park at night. If you see a spill or notice a leak while the engine is running, the problem is more serious than just simply adding more antifreeze. To avoid more serious damage to your vehicle's engine, a radiator repair will be necessary sooner rather than later.

DIY Tip: Check the antifreeze/coolant level on a regular basis. If you need to add anti-freeze yourself, unscrew or pop off the cap on top of the opaque plastic overflow reservoir and add your mixture until it reaches the full mark. Put the cap back on properly, and your vehicle will be ready to finish out the summer in style!

Brake Service: How much do you know about Brakes?

Are your vehicle's brakes in need of repair? A simple test can provide a relatively accurate assessment of whether or not you're headed towards a brake service.

If you are looking for Brake Replacement Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Services Billings MT shop. Find Brake Repair Billings MT for safe driving.

Self-Test for Dummies about Brakes:

    * First, on ABS-equipped vehicles, does the ABS warning light come on when you turn the ignition? The light should come on for a few seconds to verify the ABS warning light circuit works, and then it should go out. If no light appears, a bulb is either burned out or there is a wiring problem. If the light comes on and remains on, you should take your vehicle to a certified brake service specialist for a diagnostic test to identify the problem.

    * Secondly, how does the brake pedal feel? Is it firm when you step down on it? A soft or mushy-feeling pedal usually indicates air in the lines or leaks. A pedal that slowly sinks is a classic symptom of a worn master cylinder. A low pedal may indicate worn linings, the need for adjustment, defective or frozen drum brake adjusters or the level of brake fluid is too low.

    * Thirdly, check to see if the brake lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed. If there are no lights, it may indicate a defective or misadjusted brake light pedal switch or burned out bulbs in the tail lights.

    * Fourthly, what is the level of brake fluid in the reservoir? A low level reading may indicate a leak or worn linings. Discoloration indicates moisture contamination and the need to change the brake fluid.

    * Lastly, while driving and braking, do you hear any squealing or rubbing noises? If so, it is most likely because the rotors are worn down to minimum specifications or that the wear indicators are making contact with the rotor.

If you notice any of the abnormalities mentioned in the test above, take your vehicle into a full service auto center for a full brake service.

Car Service Tips to Keep Your Vehicle Environmentally in Tune

Routine car service is a win-win situation. Besides helping the environment and saving our natural resources, a properly maintained vehicle runs more efficiently, is safer, and lasts longer. This not only helps you save our natural resources, it saves you time and money spent on extensive car repair.

If you are looking for Car Service Billings MT than Find our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop.Find Starters Billings MT with us to to solve electronic problems

Be in tune with the environment by following these car service tips:

    * Tune up yourengine. Fuel efficiency can be reduced by as much as 30% with a misfiring spark plug. Check your owner's manual and follow the recommended service schedule intervals for replacing filters and fluids.

    * Check your tires. Under-inflation, wheels out of alignment, or tires out of balance wastes fuel--the engine has to work harder to push the vehicle. Properly maintained tires will last longer, meaning fewer scrap tires to be disposed of.

    * Maintain your A/C. It should be serviced only by a certified technician experienced in handling and recycling refrigerants. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, almost one third of the gases released into the atmosphere come from vehicle air conditioners not working properly.

    * Dispose of used motor oil, anti-freeze/coolant, tires, and old batteries properly. Many car repair facilities will collect and dispose of these items for you, or call your local government for recycling sites.

    * Watch speed limits. Gas mileage decreases sharply above 55 mph. Use cruise-control on open highways to keep your speed as steady as possible. Avoid sudden accelerations and jerky stop-and-go's.

    * Avoid excessive idling. Shut off the engine while waiting. Today's vehicles are designed to "warm up" fast, so those five-minute warm ups on cold winter mornings are not necessary.

    * Lighten your load. Carry only what is necessary as less weight means better mileage. Store luggage in the trunk rather than on the roof to reduce drag.

    * Eliminate unnecessary driving. Consolidate your daily errands, join a car pool, and try to travel when traffic is light to avoid stop-and-go conditions.

Remember, how your car runs, how you drive it, and how used fluids and parts are disposed of all affect our environment. Make your mark for the good!

Is your car or truck losing power? When your "Service Engine" or "Check Engine" light comes on, it's time for some expert help. Instead of just a simple tune up service, it may require a thorough engine service. Let an engine repair specialist tell you exactly what's happening under the hood. For example, did your vehicle fail an emissions test? Ask to have an emissions diagnostic run to take out the guesswork and to determine the actual problem. They can recommend the appropriate engine service to restore your vehicle's performance.

Need solution for problems associated with auto electrical, starters or Auto Electrical Repair Billings MT our Precision Automotive Service Billings MT mechanic can help. Also find Engine Service Billings MT with us.

An inspection and diagnosis by your engine repair specialist may show that your vehicle has other engine components that need a maintenance service and repair to get your vehicle back up to speed. Some of these components may include:

    * Crankcase - vent filter or ventilation (PVC) valve
    * Distributor cap and rotor
    * Emissions control system

Exhaust System: Why Is the Muffler so important?

You can tell the importance of the muffler by the level of noise coming from your car or truck's exhaust system. Simply stated, the purpose of the muffler is to cancel out the sound waves produced by the engine as those waves travel through the muffler.

If you are looking for Exhaust Systems Billings MT your search can be over now with our pricesprecisionauto Auto Repair Billings MT Shop. Also find Vehicle Maintenance Billings MT to keep your car up to date.

What are sound waves?

In relation to an exhaust system, sound is a pressure wave formed from pulses of alternating high and low air pressure. Air pressure is created when an exhaust valve in the engine opens and a burst of high-pressure gas suddenly enters the exhaust system. The molecules in this gas collide with the lower-pressure molecules in the pipe, causing them to stack up on each other. They then stack up on the molecules a little further down the pipe, leaving an area of low pressure behind.

How does the muffler cancel sound?

Typically, the muffler is constructed in three layers: Two thin layers of metal with a thicker, slightly insulated layer between them. This allows the muffler to absorb some of the pressure pulses. The pipes going in and out of the main chamber are perforated with holes and are fine-tuned (just like a musical instrument) to reflect the sound waves so that they interfere with each other. The exhaust gases and the sound waves enter through the center tube. This allows thousands of tiny pressure pulses to bounce around in the main chamber, canceling each other out and also being absorbed by the muffler's housing.

Oil Changes: Tips for Surviving Hot Weather!

Most people look forward to hot weather because they can shed those heavy winter coats. However, summer can play havoc on your vehicle's engine, especially relating to oil changes. Make sure you schedule an oil change before you head out on a long summer road-trip.

If you are looking for quality Oil Changes Billings MT than find our dedicated Auto Repair Services Billings MT. Our dedicated mechanic also provides Air Conditioner Service Billings MT for your vehicle.

Here are a few tips on how to help your engine survive summer's high temperatures.

    * Have regular oil changes. This will keep the engine's moving parts from overheating. When oil is cold, it thickens; when it heats up, it becomes less viscous, or more watery. The differences are crucial when it comes to protecting your engine against extremes in weather. While it needs to be thick enough to seal tiny gaps in the engine and properly lubricate metal-against-metal surfaces, it also has to be thin enough to circulate easily where your engine needs it the most. Extreme hot weather can cause it to get too thin, thereby losing its cooling efficiency.

    * Oil Viscosity. Viscosity is measured using two numbers and a letter. Use 10W-40 for example; the first number (10) refers to the thickness at cold temperatures (0ºFahrenheit), and the second number refers to the thickness at high temperatures (212º Fahrenheit.) While the first number is crucial for the cold months of winter and you want to make sure your engine is protected at startup, the second is more important once your car is warmed up and purring down the road. In general, thicker oils are recommended for warm weather since they start at a higher viscosity and don't become too thin as the engine heats up while driving.

    * Types of engine oils. The different types of oil offer varying degrees of protection. Synthetics maintain a more consistent viscosity over a broad range of temperatures, but they're also significantly more expensive, and sometimes incompatible with certain older engines. Synthetic blends include a combination of both natural and synthetics, and offer many of the benefits of the pricier oil without the high cost. Premium conventional oils are of higher quality natural with increased levels of protection.

Your selection of oil type and viscosity will depend on the climate in which you drive, compatibility with your vehicle, and your budget. The most important source of information about oil changes for warm weather for your specific engine is your car's owner's manual. Read it carefully, and follow the recommended oil change schedule.

Summer Driving Made Easy: Visit your Auto Repair Shop

To lessen the odds of mechanical failure during the hot summer months ahead, it would be wise to schedule a visit at a reliable auto repair shop for a thorough inspection of your vehicle. With the harsh winter months just past, you could be headed for a potential breakdown before summer is over. The heat, dust, and stop-and-go traffic of summer takes a toll on your vehicle and may require a little extra in the way of auto repair services .

If you are looking for quality Car Battery Replacement Billings MT your search can be over now with our Pricesprecision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Meet Transmission Service Billings MT mechanic for safe driving.

Consider the following auto repair tips:

    * Air Conditioner -- Have the A/C system checked out. A system that is operating only marginally will probably fail in hot weather.

    * Cooling System – Overheating is the most common cause of summer breakdowns. The cooling system should be thoroughly inspected periodically by an auto repair professional and flushed and refilled about every 24 months.

    * Oil -- Change your oil and filter as specified in your manual. If you make frequent short jaunts, extended trips with lots of luggage, or tow a trailer, it should be about every 3,000 miles.

    * Engine Service – Your auto repair shop can replace other filters (air, fuel, PCV, etc.) as needed, as well as take care of any engine problems, (hard starts, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc.).

    * Windshield Wipers -- A dirty windshield can create a safety issue. For those summer rain storms, make sure worn blades are replaced and that you have plenty of windshield washer fluid on hand.

    * Lights -- Inspect all interior and exterior lights and bulbs; replace burned out bulbs; periodically clean dirt and insects from all lenses.

    * Tires -- Check tire pressure at least once a month. Examine the tread for uneven wearing and cupping. Check the sidewalls for cuts and nicks. Don't forget to check the spare, and be sure the jack is in good condition.

* Brakes -- Brakes should be inspected as recommended in your manual, or sooner if you notice pulsations, grabbing, noises, or longer stopping distance. Any problems should be corrected as soon as possible.

    * Battery – Have the battery checked for a charge. Scrape away corrosion from posts and cable connections; clean all surfaces; re-tighten all connections. If battery caps are removable, check the fluid level monthly.

    * Emergencies -- Carry a first aid kit, blanket, snacks, water, flares, flashlight, and a cell phone.

Even though you may be able to handle some of the tips above yourself, be sure to find a professional auto repair technician for assistance to make sure you reach your summer destination safely.

Worn out Brake Pads? A Brake Replacement may be necessary!

It's inevitable that your vehicle will require a service every so many miles to inspect the braking system. This system is comprised of four main components—the master cylinder, calipers, brake pads and rotors. An older vehicle has brake shoes and drums instead of calipers and rotors. It is common for any one or more of these components to wear out beyond a simple repair, causing your brakes to lose their ability to stop quickly. It is highly likely that at this point, your auto mechanic will recommend an entire brake replacement for the safety of the vehicle.

If you are looking for quality Brake Replacement Billings MT your search can be over now with our Pricesprecision Auto Repair Services Billings MT . Meet vehicle maintenance Billings MT mechanic for safe driving.

Here is a simple description of these four components:

    * Master Cylinder – Over the past few years, this component has been refined and should rarely malfunction. However, one problem that could occur is an internal leak. This will cause the brake pedal to slowly sink to the floor when you apply steady pressure with your foot. If this happens, a warning light on the dash will alert you.
    * Pads - Brake pads wear out with use and must be replaced periodically. If the lining of the pad wears down to the metal shoe, it will have metal-to-metal contact directly against the rotor, causing severe damage and loss of braking efficiency.

    * Rotors - The disc rotors have a highly machined surface that makes contact with the brake pads. Just as the pads wear out, rotors also undergo wear and tear, usually in the form of ridges and groves from the pads rubbing against them. If worn-out brake pads damage the rotors, it is possible to machine and resurface them. However, if the damage is too extensive, and the rotors are too thin, you will likely need to replace both the brake pads and rotors.

    * Calipers - The caliper is what pinches the brake pads onto the disc when you step on the pedal. If the calipers lock up, the pads will wear down to metal and cause damage to the rotor. Or, if the calipers start to leak hydraulic fluid, they don't have the pressure needed to press the pads against the rotor, and your brakes will fail.

Take a moment to learn more about the components of the brake system so that you can make an informed decision about brake replacement.

Radiator Repair: Check out 3 Radiator Service Tips!

Spring has arrived, and it is time for some spring cleaning, including your vehicle! A good place to start is with a radiator service. Just to be on the safe side, here are some issues to check out before you head down the road. If there are any problems, schedule a radiator repair with a trusted mechanic.

If you are looking for Radiator Repair Billings MT than Find our Precision Auto Repair Services Billings MT services.Find Starters Billings MT with us to solve Alternators problems.

Before turning on the engine:

    * Is the coolant/antifreeze at the proper level? Remove the radiator cap (when the engine is cold) and look inside. You should be able to actually see the fluid. If you have to add more than a pint, or if you see any leaking on the ground or in the engine compartment, schedule a radiator service to have the cooling system pressure tested.
    * If your engine is overheating, especially if there is no visible leak and the fluid level is correct, pay attention to "when" it happens and jot it down. This will give your mechanic a good idea as to the possible cause for the appropriate radiator repair.

When the engine is idling:

    * Does your vehicle have an air conditioner condenser fan? The air conditioner compressor requires a cooling fan to operate as long as the compressor is on.
    * Is the cooling fan working properly? This cooling fan prevents the engine from overheating, especially when the vehicle is idling or running at a low speed.

While the engine is running at driving speed:

    * Is the coolant/anti-freeze circulating properly? Airflow and coolant circulation are crucial at 55 MPH. The water pump should be pumping a large amount of coolant/antifreeze throughout the cooling system.
    * Is overheating occurring at normal driving speeds? It could be caused by a restriction in the system such as a kinked radiator hose, a restricted radiator, or a stuck thermostat.

To prevent major engine damage caused by overheating from occurring, don't delay in having any problems diagnosed early so that the appropriate radiator repair can be taken care of as soon as possible.

Need a Transmission Service: Check these Failure Symptoms!

Next to an engine, the transmission is probably the most important component which may cause improper vehicle operation. Problems can take several forms. Each symptom may have a number of possible causes, some requiring extensive transmission repair while others need only an adjustment or minor transmission service.

If you are looking for quality Transmission Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Engine Repair Billings MT services to have safe driving.

The following are the most common failure symptoms leading to a transmission repair:

Engine Light On–Dashboard light prompts you to "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon".

Strange Noises– Unusual sounds can come from hood or rear of car, such as a hum or low whine, clicking, knocking, screeching, buzzing, whistling, clanking, or grating.
"Slow Response"–When the vehicle is cold, it won't move, or it shifts late during the first few minutes of operation.

Slipping–Engine races, but vehicle moves slowly or won't accelerate as it should. It sometimes may feel like it is in gear, but pauses or hesitates before the vehicle moves.
Stalling–The vehicle stalls or labors on takeoff. This typically happens repeatedly over a short period of time.

No Response– When the shift lever is placed in Drive, nothing happens. Even while racing the engine, there is still no response.

No Reverse–Vehicle doesn't move when shift lever is placed in Reverse. There may be a lunge backwards, but the vehicle does not totally get in reverse gear.

Leaks–Transmission fluid stains or pools under the vehicle.

Loss of Power–The passing gear doesn't engage, and there's no surge of power when the accelerator is pressed to the floor.
Erratic or Improper Shifting– Shifting that is noticeable early or delayed. Unexpected shifts, or speed at which shifts occur keeps changing.

Labored Shift Handle movement–The shift handle is hard to move into or out of any position. Applying more pressure does not remedy the problem.

Vehicle Moves (or Jerks) – While first starting the car or before you turn it off, the vehicle moves or jerks while in Park or Neutral.

Strange Smell–Burnt or rancid odor is coming from under the hood or underneath vehicle.
Shift Indicator Off–The indicator must be slightly off (P) or (N) to start the car. Shift indicator doesn't point to the proper range.

Metal Shavings or Debris–
Inspection during a transmission service reveals excessive amounts of debris in the transmission pan.

If your vehicle experiences any of the issues, you should seek a qualified transmission repair diagnostician to help you determine the root cause of the problem and have the problem taken care of as soon as possible.

Car Service: Get rid of strange car noises with Car Repair.

Are you hearing strange noises coming from your car you've never heard before? If so, it's time for a car service. If you listen carefully, each type of noise can indicate what the possible problem may be, indicating the type of necessary car repair.

If you are looking for complete Car Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Find Tire Rotation Billings MT to have safe driving.

Do these noises sound familiar?

   1. Whistling/hissing – If heard when the engine is running or idling, it could be due to a broken or missing vacuum hose. This problem will also cause your engine to shake and idle poorly, as well as increase fuel consumption and decrease the performance of your car.

   2. Pinging/rattling – If the sound of rattling (like marbles in a can) is heard when the engine is revved up, it could be caused by abnormal combustion called "detonation" or "spark knock". To prevent key engine parts overheating leading to more serious engine damage, don't put off taking your vehicle in for a car service.

   3. High-pitched squealing – If this sound is accompanied by a sharp, jerky motion when turning the steer wheel at low speed, it could indicate that the power-steering is loose or worn, the power steering belt needs to be tightened or replaced, or that the power steering fluid level is low. If the sound is heard after starting the engine, other belts, such as the alternator, air conditioner compressor, or water pump, could be loose. Schedule a car service to see if a replacement or adjustment is needed.

   4. Tapping/clicking/clattering – A light tapping or clicking sound may be heard for a few minutes if your car has sat idle for a while and the oil has not had sufficient time to lubricate the engine. The sound is caused by valve lifters that need to refill with engine oil upon starting. If the problem persists, an oil and filter change may be necessary.

   5. Roaring – This sound is typically caused by a leak either in the muffler or exhaust pipes. It will become louder as the engine accelerates. Not only does this emit poisonous carbon monoxide gas into the atmosphere, but into the car as well. A timely car repair will keep your vehicle running clean and your passengers safe.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, call your trusted car service center and schedule an inspection. While some minor problems can wait, others will only get bigger if you procrastinate having a needed car repair.
