Need a Tire Rotation before your Winter Trip?

The Holiday Season is here, and with that comes road trips for many people. However, that means there are more cars on the road that need some type of maintenance or repairs. So that you are not one of the motorists sitting by the side of the road, take a few extra minutes before your trip to make ensure safe holiday travels through the cold and icy conditions. A standard inspection should including checking all fluids, a necessary oil change, inspection of your tires (purchasing new tires or snow tires may be necessary), including a tire rotation, braking system, and steering and suspension systems. Remember to check the spare when inspecting your other tires.

Of course, even if your vehicle has a clean bill of health, be prepared for the unexpected. This time of year can be hazardous, due to break downs, flat tires, accidents, road closures, and other issues. Be sure to have a roadside emergency kit in the trunk, and throw in a couple of blankets, snacks, and water.

If you are looking for quality Tire Rotation Billings MT than find our dedicated Auto Center Billings MT shop. Also meet our Alternators Billings MT mechanic for your vehicle’s safety.

Make sure you take care of your tires before something goes wrong! A tire failure while you're driving can be catastrophic--causing your car to go out of control or leaving you stranded in the middle of nowhere.  A tire rotation can sometimes fix a lot of problems:

• Worn Tread - The tread on your tires should never fall below 1/16 of an inch (1.6 millimeters) in depth. Twice that much is better if you regularly drive on slick, wet surfaces.
• Cracks in the Sidewall – Cracks could be a sign that your tire is developing a leak.
• Bulges and Blisters – When the outer surface of the tire begins to weaken, it can result in a bulge or blister that extends outward from the rest of the surface.
• Too Much Vibration - There can be a number of causes for excessive vibration—misaligned or unbalanced tires, failing shock absorbers, or a problem in internal structure of the tire.

We here at Precision Automotive would like to thank our customers for allowing us to take care of your vehicle throughout the year. As you head down the open road to spend the holidays with friends and family, we wish all of you a safe and happy holiday season filled with family, friends and joy.

Engine Repair Do You Know Your Options?

Just like a physical check-up at your doctor's office, it is important to keep up with regular engine service for your vehicle. If engine service is neglected, over time your vehicle will start to develop problems caused by normal mileage wear and tear, poor maintenance, lubrication problems; or excessive overheating, just to name a few. You may start to notice the typical symptoms--excessive smoke from the tailpipe; excessive oil consumption; knocking or tapping sounds; low oil pressure; low compression; water mixing in oil; oil getting into the air cleaner and/or radiator.

If your engine has "died," it does not have to be the end of your vehicle.  But what are your options? Smart motorists, like smart shoppers, make better decisions when they know all of the options. When a car or truck needs major engine repair, the first reaction of many consumers is to buy a new or used vehicle. Sometimes disposing of your current vehicle might make sense, but often it simply may not be necessary, or even the best decision. Once you consider the "hidden" costs of purchasing a new or used vehicle, the economic benefits become very clear.

If you are looking for Engine Repair Billings MT Replacement than find Price precision Auto caring with best Auto Repair Services Billings MT services. Also find Car Maintenance Billings MT to have safe driving.

What are the benefits of rebuilding or replacing the engine, rather than replacing your vehicle?

Choosing to repower your current engine with a remanufactured / rebuilt engine is your most reliable and cost effective choice over the long term. Rebuilt / remanufactured engines get better gas mileage than a worn engine, and emit fewer pollutants. Engine rebuilding also saves the tremendous amount of energy used in processing discarded car engines and vehicles as well as conserving energy and resources required to manufacture new engines.

Count the Cost!
As you may have assumed, there is a fairly significant range of possible prices for different types of car engines, depending on factors such as vehicle make/model, technician labor charges and the extent of other related automotive repair services that may be required to complete the rebuilt--remanufactured engine installation. The price range typically includes the retail price of custom rebuilt or factory remanufactured engines plus the labor to install the engines. The estimate should also include the replacement of the thermostat, water pump, and disposable automotive parts including spark plugs, ignition wires, belts, hoses, filters and gaskets.

Don't Forget: You should contact multiple service providers and to obtain several estimates to determine your best engine installation value.

Brake Replacement: Ask the Experts!

When you step on the accelerator, you expect your car to move forward or backward. The same principle is true when you step on the brake pedal—you expect your car to come to a quick stop! If it doesn't, it's time to check-in with the brake repair experts. Over time, it's inevitable that the braking components (such as the rotors, pads, and calipers) will wear out, resulting in an urgent brake replacement.

A brake repair technician generally measures the wear of the front and rear brake pad, the rotor, and the drum, test the brake fluid, and inspect all other components related to the braking system. From brake pads to rotors, brake lines to hoses, brake calipers to the master cylinder, every part works together to stop your car safely.

If you are looking for reliable Brake Replacement Billings MT than find Price Precision Auto also caring with best Starters Billings MT. Find proper Tune Up Billings MT to have safe driving.

Other service and repairs may be required, such as:

• Installation of new brake pads or shoes
• Resurfacing or replacement of brake rotors or drums
• Brake fluid change
• Brake bleeding
• Replacement of brake lines, hoses and other brake components

Remember: Have your vehicle's braking system checked by a brake repair technician at regular intervals to ensure you are driving as safe as possible.

Fun facts about brakes:
• All cars have four brakes - two rear brakes and two front brakes.
• In most cars, front brakes are primarily responsible for halting your vehicle and provide 60% to 90% of the vehicle's stopping power.
• Malcolm Lockheed is credited with developing the hydraulic brake system in 1918.

Stress-Free Driving with Quality Automotive Service!

The cold days of winter are approaching fast! People are full-swing into a busy schedule of work, school, and other activities. Don't let a breakdown leave you stranded out in the cold and interrupt your schedule. Schedule the appropriate automotive service today. The right automotive service, performed at the recommended interval, can save you hundreds of dollars in automotive repair expense, as well as literally save your life in freezing conditions.

If you are looking for quality Oil Change Billings MT than find our dedicated Automotive Service Billings MT shop. Also meet our Engine Service Billings MT mechanic for your vehicle’s safety.

5 Automotive Service Tips:
1. Regular Oil Changes. In addition to regular oil changes, don't forget to have all other fluids and filters (such as coolant, brake fluid and transmission fluid) checked and changed at the recommended intervals. For extra protection, use high-quality filters--they are worth the extra cost.
 2. Inspection of Brakes. Safe brakes are crucial. Don't delay in having an inspection of the braking system on a regular basis, before you notice signs of braking problems. If problems are caught early on, it may be just a minor automotive repair.
3. Lights-exterior and interior. As the days get shorter and darker, it is important to make sure all your vehicle's lights are working properly. New bulbs only cost a few dollars and are easy to install, or go to an automotive service center for assistance.
4. Replace Windshield Wiper Blades. Replace your windshield wiper blades if they are more than six months old. Keep the washer fluid reservoir filled so you have a clear line of vision through your windshield.
5. Check the Tires. At least once a week, check the air pressure in each tire and make sure it is at the correct inflation pressure. Also be sure to stay on schedule with tire rotation. Stay safe by replacing any tire with tread that is too thin, and make sure the spare is in good condition.

Spending time and money on quality automotive service is an investment in the safety of you and your family as well as other motorists. As an added bonus, you will also find that your gas mileage will increase, and that your vehicle will operate and brake more efficiently.

Tire Balance and Tire Rotation A Small investment pays big dividends!

All drivers want peak performance from their tires as they are a costly investment in a vehicle. Just as you have your oil changed with frequency, you should also have regular tire service, including tire balance and tire rotation, to help reduce accidents, save gasoline and keep tires going longer. Nothing's worse than a flat at the wrong moment, when you're running late to work in the rain. A regular inspection will make sure that the tire balance remains intact. A tire rotation will make sure that the tread wears evenly.

If you are looking for Tire Rotation Billings MT service than find our Car Axles Billings MT .Also meet our Brake Service Billings MT mechanic for your vehicle’s safety.

Four Tips to keep your tires rolling along:
• Check Tire Pressure: Under or over-inflation can result in irregular wear, loss of control and accidents. A tire can lose up to half of its air pressure and not appear to be flat! Have the air pressure checked with every oil change. The recommended pressure is posted on the driver's door or in the glove compartment.

• Check Tire Balance and Alignment: If your vehicle is pulling to one side or shaking, it may be out of balance, or even out of alignment, causing damage to the wheels or rims. Have your vehicle checked for the proper tire balance and alignment periodically, especially if you notice driving irregularities.

• Tire Rotation: Regular rotation promotes more even wear, which in turn prolongs tire life. The general guideline for tire rotation is every other oil change (or every 6,000 to 7,500 miles), unless otherwise directed by your vehicle or tire manufacturer.

• Tire Tread: While the penny test is fairly reliable (legal tread depth is 2/32 of an inch - the exact distance from the tip of Abe's head to the rim of a penny), you may feel more comfortable having your certified technician measure this during an inspection.

Does your vehicle needs a tire rotation service or just a tire balance? We will be glad to help you. Exhaust System: Two Common Causes Of Muffler Damage.

Many times, drivers ignore the exhaust system in their vehicle until they start hearing strange noises and smelling strange odors coming from their muffler. Usually, the exhaust system is a silent partner working in the background of your vehicle. However, the functions it performs are vital for the operating efficiency of your vehicle. So by the time you notice the sounds and smells coming from your muffler, there are already existing problems that will require a repair.

The main job of the exhaust system is to release the toxic gas by-products of internal combustion. However, today's cars are equipped with catalytic converters that convert the toxic exhaust into non-toxic water vapor and carbon dioxide.

If you are looking for Exhaust Systems Billings MT than find our dedicated Auto Shop Billings MT Services shop. Also find Brakes Billings MT mechanic services to solve all your vehicle problems.

In addition to the normal aging process of the exhaust system, there are two common causes of damage to the muffler and exhaust system:

• Because the muffler is mounted on the underside of your car, it is exposed to damaging road conditions (especially salted or sanded roads in the winter). Have the exhaust system inspected frequently for leaks, especially if the muffler is starting to get noisy!
• When driving short distances, such as your daily commute to work or school, the water vapor produced by the catalytic convertor doesn't have enough time to fully evaporate or get expelled. It condenses back into water, which can cause rust in the muffler. Another by-product of engine emissions is sulfur. As it mixes with the water, it can form a corrosive acid that eats away at the muffler.
A leak in the exhaust system not only creates a noisy muffler, but decreases fuel efficiency. Even more harmful are the fumes, such as carbon monoxide, that can potentially enter the cabin of your car. It doesn't take much impair your driving and your health.

A word to the wise: At each oil change, remember to have the exhaust system inspected to make sure it stays in good shape!  Prevent further damage to your car, and possibly your health, by taking care of problems as soon as possible.

7 Driving Tips to Save Your Wheel Alignment!

Most people are now settled into their busy schedule of work and school activities. After summer road trips over bumpy roads, loss of the proper car alignment is a common occurrence. It would be wise to have the wheel alignment of your vehicle checked and corrected as necessary before traveling winter's rainy and icy roads.

If you are looking for Wheel Alignment Billings MT than find our dedicated Auto Repair Services Billings MT Services shop. Also find Oil Changes Billings MT to have safe driving.

7 Smart Driving Tips – Saving your wheel alignment will not only cause your ride to be more comfortable, you can reduce potential damage to your vehicle caused by bumpy roads or potholes that surprise you:

1. Stay focused and pay attention to the traffic around you. Avoid tailgating as this restricts your ability to anticipate obstacles or sudden braking by the vehicle in front of you.
2. Make sure your tires have the correct air pressure. Over-inflated tires can be easily damaged. An under-inflated tire handles poorly, and a sudden bump or pothole may cause it to rupture.
3. Keep the windshield clean to clearly see obstacles in the road.
4. Beware of puddles that may be hiding deep and sharp-edged potholes.
5. Reduce your speed on bumpy or graveled roads. This will help prevent damage resulting from a punctured tire or from losing the proper car alignment.
6. If hitting a bump or pothole cannot be avoided, take your foot off the accelerator, brake lightly, if at all, and then let off the brakes entirely the moment before impact. As soon as possible, pull safely off the road to check for a flat tire or to see if the rims have been damaged.
7. Try not to suddenly swerve in an attempt to avoid an obstacle as it creates a hazard for the vehicles immediately behind and beside you. You could also hit a bump on an oblique angle, potentially causing greater damage to your tires and wheel rims.

Remember: Preventive strategy for saving your wheel alignment is about preparation, driving skills, and reacting appropriately when the unexpected happens!

Does Your Car Battery Need A Charge?

After summer's extreme temperatures, your car battery may be feeling drained! Don't let your busy schedule get interrupted by a dead car battery. There is nothing worse than to be stranded in your driveway waiting for a jump-start or a tow truck and then looking for a car battery replacement.

Excessive heat and overcharging shortens the life of a car battery. If the battery fluid evaporates, the internal structure of the battery can be damaged. Also, if the voltage regulator allows too high of a charging rate, the battery will eventually be destroyed. These problems require more than a charge, you will need a car battery replacement!

If you are looking for Car Battery Replacement Billings MT than find our dedicated Precision Automotive Starters Billings MT Services shop. Also find Wheel Alignment Billings MT to have safe driving.

The simple maintenance tips below can helps your vehicle's car battery give you the service you expect:

  • Be sure the electrical system is charging at the proper rate; overcharging can damage a battery as quickly as undercharging.
  • On a regular basis, check the fluid level in your battery if it is the type that requires topping off. Add distilled water when necessary.
  • Always replace a battery with one that's rated at least as high as the manufacturer's equipped original.
  • Keep the top of the battery clean. Dirt becomes a conductor, which drains power. Corrosion accumulating on the terminals it becomes an insulator, inhibiting current flow.
By following these simple steps your car battery will last longer, saving you the cost of a premature car battery replacement.

5 Vehicle Maintenance Tips: Keep Your Money in the Bank!

Summer vacations are over and now you are tightening your budget as you head back to work or school. Some drivers think if they ignore basic vehicle maintenance services they are saving money. However, once they start to experience noticeable problems with their brakes or steering, more than likely they will actually be spending more with unexpected and costly auto repairs. Keep your money in the bank and save yourself some frustration and stress by taking care of any car maintenance issues before you start experiencing problems.

If you are looking for quality Vehicle Maintenance Billings MT than find our dedicated Brake Replacement Billings MT shop. Also find Transmission Service Billings MT replacement to have safe driving.

5 important vehicle maintenance items:

  1. Oil – Make it a habit to check the dipstick several times between oil changes. If the oil level is consistently lower than it should be, inform your mechanic of the problem before the "change oil" light comes on. Don't just "top it off" with an extra quart and hope for the best. Potential problems, such as oil contamination or full-on engine seizure, could result from worn-out seals in the engine.
  2. Tires -- Tires pay a large role in a vehicle's ability to stop and turn effectively. Every 1,000 miles or so, check the tire pressure. Invest in a tire pressure gauge. You could be preventing an accident! The proper inflation pressure also gives you better mileage! Have your tires rotated regularly for uniform tread-wear. If they have worn down to the wear bars, it's time for a new set of tires.
  3. Brakes -- Brakes work together with tires to ensure safe stopping distances. Have the braking system checked every time you visit your auto shop. Watch for signs of brake failure, such as squealing noises, pedal softness, or vibration.
  4. Transmission – Because most mechanics do not road-test transmissions (except as part of a major vehicle maintenance service), it's up to you to report any signs of problems.
  5. Recommended Vehicle Maintenance – Even though scheduled car maintenance can sometimes cost more than is comfortable for your budget, it will save you money in the long run by prolonging the life of all the systems and parts that make your car function safely.
Don't neglect good car maintenance! Engine Repair: Exhausted From Summer’s Heat?

Many people have gone on their last road trip for summer and are starting a busy schedule of work, school, sports, and the list goes on. Because hot weather makes existing problems worse, prevent a major engine repair down the road! To start off the fall season right, check your vehicle maintenance schedule, including an engine service, and make sure you are on track.

If you are looking for quality Engine Repair Billings MT than find our dedicated Brakes Billings MT shop. Also meet our Car Struts Billings MT mechanic for your vehicle’s safety.

Even though summer is past and cooler weather is on the way, don't neglect your vehicle's cooling system. Cooling system failure is a leading cause of vehicle breakdowns. You can possibly avoid an unnecessary and expensive engine repair, not to mention the frustration of an interrupted schedule.
If the cooling system hasn't received regular maintenance, it's not a question of whether it will fail, but when it will fail.

Tips for maintaining your vehicle's cooling system:

  • Coolant – If coolant is not changed regularly, it will lose its effectiveness in preventing corrosion and its freeze- protection abilities. Check your owner's manual for the recommended replacement interval. Check the level of coolant periodically to prevent overheating of your engine.
  • Radiator – Make sure the radiator cap is screwed on tightly and does not leak. Have it pressure tested to ensure it is functioning properly at the same time a pressure test is performed on the entire cooling system. Again, change the coolant (with its corrosion inhibitors) on a regular basis to prevent internal corrosion in the radiator. Flush the coolant periodically to remove any debris. Look for any external obstructions on the radiator, such as paper, leaves, bugs or other debris that may have stuck to it and is blocking air flow.
  • Belts and Hoses – Because belts and hoses are made of rubber, they will wear and degrade over time with normal use. Inspect them for cracks or soft or bulging spots. If they fail, your cooling system stops working. Replace belts and hoses approximately every four years or when your mechanic recommends.
  • Water pump – On many vehicles, the water pump is driven by the timing belt. Replace the water pump at the same interval as the timing belt. A failing water pump means an overheating engine.
Watch for signs of problems, such as the temperature gauge rising near the danger zone, coolant leaks, steam or hissing sounds under the hood, or the distinct smell of coolant or an engine that's running hot. Prevent overheating or other car problems by having the proper engine service and maintenance performed on schedule!

Auto Electrical Service: 2 Steps to Diagnose Problems!

Your car's electrical system consists of the battery, starter and alternator. The battery provides juice to the starter. Then, the alternator gives that battery the energy it needs to power your car. If one of these parts is not working properly, your car won't start or run correctly. You will need the help of a professional to perform an auto electrical service to pinpoint any problems that may be happening with your electrical system.

If you are looking for quality Car Battery Billings MT replacement than your search can be over now with our Precision Automotive Auto Electrical Service Billings MT shop. Meet us for Exhaust Systems Billings MT analysis.

Accurate auto electrical diagnosis is one of the most difficult challenges to be found when working on today's automobiles. Considering the large number of systems that use electricity in order to operate, being able to quickly diagnose problems to perform the correct auto electrical repair can be a real asset. You can help your auto technician determine first where to look for any problems, as well as recommend the appropriate auto electrical service by following the two tips below:.

• First, verify the problem --

This sounds simple, but can be challenging. Sometimes duplicating the problem can be the most challenging aspect of the diagnosis, especially if the problem is intermittent. Information that is useful in duplicating the problem includes:
  • How often does the problem occur?
  • How long after the vehicle is started does the problem occur?
  • Does the problem occur only over bumps?
  • Does weather (sunny, rainy, cold, or hot) have any effect on the problem?
  • Does the car have to be idling, driving, in reverse, moving forward, be in gear, etc.?
Collecting as much information about exactly when the problem occurs will help your technician, to duplicate and confirm a problem. Try to be as exact as possible in collecting information. No detail is too small!

• Second, determine related symptoms --

This serves to help you isolate which circuit, and which part of the circuit, is faulty. By identifying related symptoms you can often eliminate unnecessary diagnostic procedures. Knowing an approximate area in a circuit where the problem is gives your technician a definite direction in diagnostic testing.

Auto Center Offers Safety Tips for Child Pedestrians.

Now that school is just around the corner, there will be lots of children out and about on the streets and sidewalks. An auto center wants to remind drivers that it's a good idea to brush up on safe driving tips to help prevent auto-pedestrian accidents. All drivers need to recognize the special safety needs of pedestrians, especially children, the elderly, disabled and intoxicated. These are the most frequent victims in auto- pedestrian collisions. Visit your auto shop and make sure your vehicle is safe by braking quickly, and that all lights and blinkers are working properly.

If you are looking for Engine Service Billings MT your search can be over with our Precision Auto Center Billings MT Mechanic. Also find Radiator Service Billings MT with us.

A review of the following safety tips is offered by an auto center:

  • Generally, pedestrians have the right-of-way at all intersections; however, regardless of the rules of the road or right-of-way, you as a driver are obligated to exercise great care and extreme caution to avoid striking pedestrians.
  • Drivers should not block the crosswalk when stopped at a red light or waiting to make a turn. Do not stop with a portion of your vehicle over the crosswalk. Blocking the crosswalk forces pedestrians to go around your vehicle and may put them in harm's way.
  • In a school zone when a warning flasher or flashers are blinking, you must stop to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk or at an intersection with no marked crosswalk.
  • Always stop when directed to do so by a school patrol sign, school patrol officer or designated crossing guard.
  • Children are the least predictable pedestrians and the most difficult to see. Take extra precautions to look out for children in school zones, residential areas, playgrounds and parks, where children may be playing.
  • Don't honk your horn, rev your engine or do anything to rush or scare a pedestrian in front of your car, even if you have the legal right-of-way.
The safety tips provided by this auto center can save lives and prevent auto accidents and accident related injuries. They can also keep your vehicle out of the auto shop for unexpected repairs caused in an accident.
Let our full-service auto center help make sure your lights and blinkers are working properly, as well as other components of your vehicle. Transmission Repair 101

The average driver knows little about the transmission in their car, let alone the basics of transmission repair or transmission service. Understanding the various terms and methods of repair below can be helpful to know whether your vehicle requires a minor transmission service or a major transmission repair.

If you are looking for quality Oil Changes Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto shop offers safe Brake Service Billings MT. Meet us for Transmission Service Billings MT mechanic.

In-Car Repairs -- There are several problems that can be resolved with an adjustment in which the unit remains in the vehicle. These types of problems can be corrected at much less cost than a complete overhaul or replacement.
  • Improper shifting: If a computer-controlled transmission is not shifting properly, it is often the result of the car's computer sending incorrect signals, or it is not reacting to the computer command. If a non computer-controlled transmission is not shifting properly, the throttle cable can be adjusted. If the vehicle has a vacuum modulator, it also can be adjusted, making sure that there are no vacuum leaks and that the engine is running at peak efficiency. In some older models, bands can be adjusted to resolve "slipping" conditions. Slipping is when an engine races briefly when shifting from one gear to the next.
  • Resealing: Resealing is done in order to repair external fluid leaks. If a leak is spotted at any of the external seals or gaskets and the transmission otherwise performs well, the technician will most likely recommend that it be resealed. Most of the external seals can be replaced while the unit is still in the car. But if the front seal must be replaced, the unit must first be removed from the vehicle in order to gain access to it, making it a much costlier job.
Complete Overhaul – There are other problems that can only be resolved by removing the transmission from the vehicle. These types of problems are more costly, requiring more hours of labor and various components that need to be replaced.
  • Rebuilding: The transmission is removed from the vehicle and completely disassembled. Each part is inspected for wear and damage and then either cleaned in a special cleaning solution, or replaced with another part depending on its condition. Parts that have friction surfaces, such as bands and clutches are replaced, as are all seals and gaskets. The torque converter is also replaced.
  • Replacement Unit vs. Overhaul Existing Unit: When an overhaul is required, there are generally two options: first, remove the unit and overhaul it or second, replace the unit with another rebuilt or remanufactured unit. The second option will get you out of the shop and on your way much faster than the first.

Brakes: Some Interesting Facts!

Judging by the number of near-rear-endings we witness on our morning commutes, the typical attitude toward brake service appears to be, "Brakes: Don't let them stop you!" Why is that? Monitoring your braking system's health is one of the most vital aspects of car ownership.

If you are looking for Brake Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Services Billings MT shop. Also find Brake Replacement Billings MT to have safe driving.

To help you understand a little more about the importance of brakes, here are a few quick facts that may be of interest:

    * The power generated by the braking system of a modest family car can exceed 500bhp (brake horse power), outstripping the engine output of virtually everything on the road.
    * The first production car with hydraulic brakes (i.e., using pipes and fluid rather than cables) was the 1920 Duesenberg, an American luxury car with a "straight eight" engine. Chrysler brought the now universal feature to mass-produced cars in 1924.
    * The legendary Dunlop-developed disc brakes that helped Jaguar win the Le Mans 24-Hour race in 1953 were referred to as "plate brakes." The term "discs" came later.
    * Formula One racing is where the most advanced brakes are found. During 1997, German driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen recorded a force of 5.99G under braking, around six times the braking performance of a conventional road car. This meant that Heinz-Harald's 65kg body momentarily weighed nearly 390kg. To achieve this deceleration he had to push the brake pedal of his Williams-Renault with a pressure of 150kg.
    * The 1967 Porsche 911S was the first production car to feature ventilated disc brake rotors. Now common, these rotors have cooling channels running between the two friction surfaces to give better cooling and therefore better resistance to brake fade during heavy applications.
    * Modern braking components need exceptional wear resistance, heat resistance and exceptional stopping capabilities. Under extreme conditions their operating temperatures can average nearly 350°C.
    * Harmful agents such as asbestos, lead and cadmium have been removed from modern brake pads. Today's friction materials are mixtures of fibers, fillers, lubricants and a binder resin. Designed for cast iron rotors, these are generally too aggressive for lightweight alloys. Less aggressive linings have been developed, but practical aluminum or composite discs for everyday road cars remain in the experimental stage.
    * To improve noise suppression, smoothness and stopping performance, the mass of disc brake rotors has increased over recent years.
    * Disc brake rotors were once considered one of the simplest parts of a car to manufacture. However, with today's sophisticated electronically monitored brake systems, tolerances need to be extraordinarily tight because the slightest shudder can confuse the car's anti-lock braking system.

Properly working brakes are essential to vehicle safety and reliability. Have a brake service at least once a year to keep them working as efficiently and effectively as originally desinged. You need to be confident that your vehicle will come to a complete and precise stop.

Advice from an Auto Repair Shop: 8 Ways to Reduce Driving Stress!

Getting stressed out when behind the wheel can turn a daily commute or a fun-filled road trip into a dangerous affair. Take the advice from an auto repair shop on some ways you can reduce stress while driving. Don't find yourself needing major auto repair because of a stress-related accident.

If you are looking for Air Conditioning Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Car Maintenance Billings MT services to have safe driving.

Because it is easy to let the little things throughout the day create a stressful and unpleasant drive, here are eight tips from an auto repair shop that can help reduce driving-related stress:

  1. Go Zen – Make your car a calming oasis for a long daily commute or an extended road trip--an air freshener with essential oils, a massaging seat cover, or subdued music. Remove items that might distract you, such as a water bottle rolling around in the back seat; and a ringing phone (put it in driving mode, or silence it altogether).
  2. Give Yourself Extra Time – Allow yourself extra time to get where you're going, including a 'getting lost' buffer for new destinations. If you are running late, remember that getting into an accident or getting pulled over is considerably worse than being late!
  3. Know Your Route -- With smart phones and in-dash navigation, it's easy to start your trip without a second thought. But checking the route in advance means you get a jump on any major construction or traffic delays.
  4. Keep Snacks On Hand -- Being stuck in a car and being hungry can cause irritable and stressful behavior. Keep non-perishable snacks, like energy bars or nuts, in the car for emergency situations.
  5. Entertain the Kids -- Bored children are noisy children. Minimize in-car fighting or grumpy behavior by having games, videos, or other entertainment methods on hand.
  6. Be Prepared -- Try to prepare for things that make you nervous, like parallel parking, reversing, or turning, and you'll find that you'll be much less stressed out when you encounter them in real-life driving situations.
  7. Use Technology -- Safety systems, like rearview cameras and blind spot warning systems, can take the pressure out of stressful driving situations.
  8. Recognize Stress -- If you start to recognize the symptoms of stress, such as a death-grip on the wheel or hunched over the wheel, deliberately relax your hands and fingers, and try leaning back. If necessary, pullover for a minute and relax.

Remember that your life or the lives of others could be at risk if you are stressed while driving.

Exhaust System: The Muffler tells all!

Is your car starting to perform poorly, barely getting you to work and back? Or is your muffler announcing your entrance to the neighborhood? You may have a leak in your vehicle's exhaust system. Here are three main indicators of problems:

The "check engine" light on the dashboard lights up;
The engine runs poorly
The engine idles rough;
Loud noises come from the muffler.

If you are looking for quality Exhaust Systems Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Center Billings MT shop. Also find Engine Service Billings MT mechanic to solve your car problems.

If you are a "Do-It-Yourselfer," you may be able to determine if there is a leak in your vehicle's exhaust system, and also pinpoint the location and source of the leak. Here are a few tips that will help save you time and money at an auto shop:

  • First, make sure the engine is cool while you look under the hood. Small leaks get smaller because metal expands as it heats up. This makes them difficult to detect.
  • Force the exhaust through any leaks by temporarily covering the muffler. Start at the engine and follow the exhaust system all the way to the end, feeling for hot air escaping through the pipe, especially at the connectors, common areas for leaks. Be sure not to touch the hot muffler.
  • Remove the plastic engine cover to inspect the exhaust manifold for cracking or warping. This problem is especially common in older cars.
  • It is common (again especially in older cars) for the gasket connecting the manifold to the cylinder head to crack. You may feel hot air escaping from the gasket as well as a strong smell of fumes.
  • Check the pipes or muffler for rust. Areas weakened by rust often cause leaks. It is easy to fix if it is just surface. It will be a more extensive repair if the rust goes all the way through the metal.
  • If you are not comfortable performing these tests yourself, take your vehicle to an auto shop. Many will run tests free of charge in order to recommend the appropriate service.

Need an inspection of your exhaust system? Regular Oil Change Intervals: Prevent Clogged Lines!

Most people know that cholesterol is the cause for clogged arteries and can be a health risk for many people. Physicians will usually take immediate action to restore the flow of blood through the body. Although this may seem to be an insignificant comparison, the same principle applies to the passage ways for the oil that flows through your vehicle's engine. Just as a poor diet and too little exercise cause deposits of cholesterol to block our arteries, contaminated oil can gum up the engine of our vehicles. Regular oil changes will help prevent these oil deposits in the lines of the motor. Many auto shops offer oil change coupons to keep your vehicle healthy.

If you are looking for quality  Oil Change Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Services Billings MT shop. Also find Car Battery Replacement Billings MT services to have safe driving.

What causes oil deposits?

Hot temperatures will cause oil to solidify and become baked onto the surface of whatever it happens to be residing in (i.e., a narrow engine oil passageway or critical engine parts). It will lose its viscosity and become a tar-like sticky goop that makes your engine work harder than usual to run.

What can be done if your car develops oil deposits?

If enough of these deposits collect, you will see an increase in engine problems. Thick or solid oil will pollute, hinder and contribute to overheating instead of cleaning, lubricating and cooling your engine.

Certain types of vehicles are more prone to oil deposits than others. But it smart to take preventative measures.

There are a few things you can do to keep your vehicle's engine healthy, such as:

  • Regular oil changes—check your owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommended oil change interval.
  • Schedule a maintenance service if you notice your car has increasing problems with hard starting, misfiring, running hot, low oil indicator light coming on, or a bad oxygen sensor.
  • Use synthetic oil if your budget will allows.
  • Do your research on additives--they may actually cause more bad than good by reacting chemically with your oil in undesired ways.
Looking for quality oil changes? Automotive Service: It’s All About Technology!

Taking good care of your vehicle is becoming more and more complex. The automotive industry is now considered as a "high-tech" industry. With the advanced technology in today's modern cars, professional automotive service is a must! When it comes to automotive repair, vehicle owners realize that their vehicle is significantly more high-tech than just a few years ago and thus requires expert technicians.

If you are looking for quality Car Battery Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Automotive Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Engine Rebuild Billings MT services to have safe driving.

Why is the automotive industry considered to be "high-tech?" In a report published by The Center for Automotive Research (CAR), a nonprofit research organization based in Ann Arbor, MI, a "high-tech industry" was defined as an industry sector that meets certain criteria and contains particular characteristics. For example, 10% or more of the industry's workforce is made up of technical employees, such as engineers. CAR's report summarized that the automotive industry "leads the pack" when it comes to technological developments and applications.

INTERESTING FACTS:

  • For every vehicle manufactured worldwide, an average of $1,200 is spent by manufacturers for research and development.
  • Today's vehicles contain around 60 microprocessors (four times as many as just 10 years ago).
  • 40% to 50% of the total cost of a vehicle is comprised of electronics (up from just 20% a decade ago).
  • The average vehicle has more than 10 million lines of software code in a typical computer network (over half the lines of code that reportedly run Boeing's 787 Dreamliner!)
  • Approximately 4,800 patents are granted to the automotive industry every year.
  • GM and Ford individually spend more money on research and development than either General Electric or Apple.
  • Five automakers—Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Honda and Daimler—are among the top 20 in all corporate research and development spending.

CAR further suggests that an automobile is the most complex purchase made by consumers. In conclusion, jobs in the automotive industry will require workers to obtain advanced training and skills to equip them for designing, building and maintaining today's modern vehicles.

Car Tune Up: Can You Forget About It?

Do new cars really need a tune up? Yes!  Even though your owner's manual may not specifically refer to the schedule of maintenance services as a tune up, it is important that you follow the recommended service intervals for the various components. The interval for a tune up will vary depending on the make, model, and age of your vehicle. Older vehicles with non-electronic ignitions should have a tune up service every 10,000 to 12,000 miles or every year, whichever comes first. Newer cars with electronic ignition and fuel injection systems can go from 25,000 miles to as many as 100,000 miles before a major tune up is needed.

If you are looking for Air Conditioner Repair Billings MT in this summer find our Precision Auto Center Billings MT shop. Also find Tune up Car Billings MT services with us.

Even if your vehicle has not reached the next tune up (or maintenance service) interval, if you do a lot of stop-and-go driving or pull heavy loads (like a camper or boat), it would be wise to have the various systems checked frequently. Make sure your vehicle is operating at its optimum efficiency as you head out on a summer road trip.

There are some obvious symptoms that will alert you when your vehicle's electronic ignition system may need to be tuned, or adjusted, such as:

  • Stalls frequently: The spark plugs may be dirty or worn; the gap between the spark plug electrodes may need adjusting; or an electronic sensing device may need to be adjusted.
  • Idles rough: A car tune up is definitely needed.
  • Lacks power: Lacks passing power to safely overtake a slower vehicle.
  • Hard to start: The battery or fuel pump could be weak, or there is a faulty electronic component in the ignition system.
Make sure to take your vehicle to an auto repair shop for full testing and diagnosis if you're experiencing any of the above problems. A tune up service may prevent a future accident!

Need a car tune up? Car Axles, Car Struts, Car Shocks: Why Are They Important?

When it comes to the operating safety of your vehicle, car axles, together with car struts and car shocks, are critical components of the suspension system. Just as important as brakes and tires are when driving! Axles are connected to the wheels, thus bearing the weight of your entire vehicle. A vehicle in motion is more than wheels turning. As the tire turns, the suspension system is in a dynamic state of balance, with the car struts and car shocks continuously compensating and adjusting for changing driving conditions.

If you are looking for quality Transmission Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Car Axles Billings MT services to have safe driving.

These three important components of the suspension system perform six basic functions for the optimum drivability of your vehicle. They . . .

  • Help maintain the appropriate vehicle ride height
  • Reduce the effect of shock forces on bumpy roads
  • Help maintain correct wheel alignment
  • Support vehicle weight
  • Keep the tires rolling down the road efficiently
  • Control the direction of travel as the wheel turn

However, these three components (car axles, car struts, and car shocks) must be in good working condition to perform on the suspension system team in harmony. Don't go out on the road with worn out car shocks and car struts. The distance needed to brake and stop in time is significantly increased, and could result in a serious accident.

Remember: For a safe, comfortable ride, make sure the suspension team of car axles, car struts, and car shocks, is working together efficiently with the braking system!

For an inspection of your vehicle's suspension system, contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Price's Precision auto shop today by calling (406) 248-2838, or go on-line to www.pricesprecisionauto.com for more information. 4 Radiator Service Tips to Stay Cool!

You have probably seen a stranded motorist on the side of the road with steam coming from under the hood. With summer on the way, now is the time to give special attention to your vehicle's cooling system. Regular radiator service is vital to in protecting your engine from summer's high temperatures. Avoid overheating and a costly radiator repair!

If you are looking for Radiator Repair Billings MT than find our dedicated Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Our dedicated mechanic also provides Air Conditioner Repair Billings MT for your vehicle.

Radiator Service Tips: Keep your vehicle's cooling system operating at peak efficiency with these four tips:
  • Check Fluid Levels – Check the coolant level about once a month. Also, make sure that the reserve tank or overflow tank levels are where they should be. If the levels are too low, an auto mechanic will know the appropriate mix of antifreeze coolant to add.
  • Check Caps and Hoses -- Check the radiator cap and water outlet cap on the reserve tank for cracks or other damage. Replace them if they appear damaged. Inspect the hoses and tubes connecting the radiator to the water pump, thermostat and reserve tank for cracks or cuts that may result in antifreeze leaks. Hoses can become dry and brittle, so replace them about every three or four years.
  • Check the Tanks -- Visually inspect the radiator tank and reserve tank every few months. Small cracks that begin as very small pinholes or punctures can be easily repaired. However, if left unattended, they will become larger and difficult to repair, leading to a costly radiator repair.
  • Drain and Flush – Over time, dirt and contaminants will build up in the cooling system. Antifreeze can become acidic and lose its effectiveness. Schedule a radiator service to drain and refill the radiator with new coolant and water. This should be done at least once a year in colder climates, and every 18 months to two years in warmer climates. To keep the clean antifreeze/coolant flowing efficiently, have a radiator flush to remove dirt, contaminants and other metal particles that may restrict the flow.

Remember: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." In other words, quality radiator service will prevent costly radiator repair!

Add radiator service to your summer planning list. Contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Price's Precision auto shop today by calling (406) 248-2838, or go on-line to www.pricesprecisionauto.com for more information about radiator repair. Our Tech-Net professional auto repair shop in Billings, MT, also serves vehicle owners in the areas of Shepherd and Laurel, MT.

Does A Hybrid Need A Car Battery Replacement?

In just a few short years, gas-electric hybrid vehicles have gone from someone's imagination to real-life metal and rubber production. For many consumers however, the question in their minds is about the "electric" part. Simply stated, hybrids use electric motors that are powered by battery packs. Traditionally, a car battery doesn't last forever. What makes a hybrid car battery different?

If you are looking for quality  Oil Change Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Services Billings MT shop. Also find Car Battery Replacement Billings MT services to have safe driving.

Think about your laptop or cell phone battery---generally, they need to be replaced after a couple years. Because of the makeup of a hybrid car battery pack, and based on practical evidence, hybrid drivers should enjoy many years of trouble-free driving.

What is a Hybrid Car Battery made of?

Most gas/electric hybrid vehicles use nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery packs rather than a lithium-ion car battery (which is the default power source for consumer electronics). These batteries are less toxic inside than traditional lead-acid batteries, an environmental bonus. But here's why they are so impressive—a NiMH car battery is much more space-efficient than a traditional lead-acid battery, and much cheaper than lithium-ion batteries. NiMH remains far and away the leader in hybrid market share.

How long will a Hybrid Car Battery last?

As most consumers know, a computer or cell-phone battery lasts longer if it is neither fully charged nor fully allowed to run down. The same is true for a hybrid battery pack. There are built-in safeguards that limit both the maximum and minimum charge levels to ensure that the battery pack will last basically the life of the car without conking out prematurely. Data shows that the number of hybrid car battery replacements is extremely low—less than 5% of the packs in use.

Save money by avoiding a premature car battery replacement. Even though mileage will vary with each vehicle, NiMH car battery packs in general are a tried and true product, with millions of miles and countless refinements recorded in the books.

Have questions about your hybrid car battery? Good Vehicle Maintenance: Polish or Wax?

It's time for a little TLC (i.e., vehicle maintenance) as spring has finally arrived. Good car maintenance means not only taking care of the inside working parts of your vehicle, but also making sure the outside looks good. The question many drivers ask is, "Do I polish or wax--it's the same thing, right?" No, polishing and waxing are two completely different processes for different reasons.

If you are looking for quality Car Repair Billings MT services than your search can be over with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Vehicle Maintenance Billings MT service.

When do you Polish?

Polishing is a process that uses abrasives to actually take a VERY thin layer of your paint away. It is during this step that all the shine should appear on your car before wax is applied. Otherwise, any fine scratches in the paint or clearcoat will reappear as the wax wears off. If in doubt as to the type of product to use, ask your car maintenance technician for a recommendation. Remember, the paint layer and clearcloat is very thin, especially on factory paint. So, make sure to always err on the side of too mild abrasive, rather than too harsh.

When do you Wax?

Wax should only be applied AFTER the polishing process above is done. Waxing is used solely to protect the polished shine from the elements. A pure wax will contain zero abrasives and contains just the product necessary to protect your paint and enhance shine. Some products claim to shine and protect in one step. Read the label to make sure what you are buying as these products can compromise the process.

What are the "sight lines?"

Your final polish, and later wax job, should be along the lines that people will use to see the car--basically along the long axis of the car. Your car should now have all the shine you could ever hope for—and with the right waxing, will stay looking that way for weeks.

Need professional advice about good car maintenance to restore the shine? Contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Price's Precision auto shop today by calling (406) 248-2838, or go on-line to www.pricesprecisionauto.com for more information about vehicle maintenance. Brakes Service: Does “Payload” Affect Brakes?

You've seen the commercials for pickup trucks--heavy-duty machinery hoisting construction materials so hefty that when placed in the bed of the truck, the entire back dips under the weight, and then bounces back up. Most pickup drivers want to be able to carry a large payload. Does payload make a difference when it comes to the efficiency of brakes?

If you are looking for Engine Repair Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Services Billings MT Shop. Also find Brake Replacement Billings MT to have safe driving.

What is the Payload Effect?

How much Weight -- "Payload capacity" usually refers to how much weight a truck can safely carry in both passengers and cargo in the cab and bed. Overloading a truck changes how it steers and brakes. Even though a payload may be within a safe amount, it still puts a strain on brakes, creating a higher braking temperature. The increased weight can also make steering more difficult.

Distribution of the Load –- The distribution of weight also plays a role in how payload affects steering and braking. A heavy or oddly distributed payload can occasionally cause brakes to lock up.
Shifting/Moving -- Cargo should always be properly secured with padding added as necessary to keep it from moving around. Don't put any unnecessary strain on the brakes, or allow damage to the cargo.
Remember: Take extra care and avoid sudden or hard stops while driving with a heavy load. This will help keep the strain on brakes to a minimum.

If you're not sure as to the correct payload your pickup truck or automobile can handle, be sure to ask your brake service technician for expert advice.

Have questions about brakes and the payload effect? Contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Price's Precision auto shop today by calling (406) 248-2838, or go on-line to www.pricesprecisionauto.com for more information about brake service. Keep Your Wheel Alignment in Place: Adopt Smart Driving Practices

As we discussed in a previous article, pothole season has arrived along with spring. Drivers need to be extra careful navigating the roads. Loss of the proper wheel alignment is a common issue resulting from the bumpy roads. There are things you can do before, during and after hitting a pothole. Preventive strategy is about preparation, driving skills and reacting appropriately when a pothole sneaks up to surprise you.

If you are looking for Car Battery Replacement Billings MT than your search can be over now with our Precision Auto Repair Billings MT shop. Also find Wheel Alignment Billings MT services to have safe driving.

BEFORE: Adopt smarter driving practices:

  • Reduce any damage that a poor car alignment or tire failure can cause by following these smart driving tips:
  • Check your tire pressure. If a tire is too soft, it handles poorly and a sudden bump may rupture it if the wheel rims pinch against the jagged edge of a pothole. Over-inflated tires are susceptible to damage as well.
  • Have a clean windshield! Your field of vision is critical.
  • Observe the vehicles ahead of you–if other cars are swerving and stopping, it's because of a problem in the road.
  • Beware of puddles–it might have a nasty, deep and sharp-edged pothole lurking below.
  • Reduce your speed on roads that are prone to potholes. Slower hits generally involve less damage from a wheel alignment or tire failure.
  • Stay focused and pay attention to the traffic in front, behind and alongside you. Don't cause an accident while swerving to avoid a pothole.
  • Don't tailgate—this restricts your ability to anticipate potholes or sudden braking by the vehicle in front of you.

DURING: React quickly and intelligently:

  • Brake only lightly, if at all, and be sure to let off the brakes entirely the moment before impact. Clamping down on your brakes at higher speeds not only could result in a rear-end collision, but also compresses the front-end suspension system. Hard braking can actually cause greater contact between the tire and the pothole where it might otherwise glide over it.
  • Do not swerve in a last ditch attempt to avoid the pothole. Aside from creating a hazard for vehicles immediately behind and beside you, you risk hitting the pothole on an oblique angle, which can cause more damage to the tire, wheel rim and car alignment.

AFTER: Reduce any damage:

Immediately pay attention to whether or not you have a flat tire. Pull off the road as soon as possible to change your tire to minimize the damage to your wheel rim.

Check tire rims to see if they were bent, if there is visible cord material or bulging that could fail later while driving.
Note if your car pulls to one side, suggesting that the wheel alignment is off and needs mechanical attention.

Is a wheel alignment needed? Contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Price's Precision auto shop today by calling (406) 248-2838, or go on-line to www.pricesprecisionauto.com for more information.
